Turns out being the most infamous drug dealer of all time doesn’t end well.
In a new, behind-the-scenes featurette on Pablo Escobar’s dramatic death scene on “Narcos,” star Wagner Moura and the show’s executive producer, Eric Newman, reveal that they shot the final scene of Season 2 on the same rooftop on which Escobar was killed in real life.
“We ended up shooting in the real house where Pablo was living — the roof right beside where he was killed,” Moura says, now without the Robinson Crusoe beard he adopted as Escobar for most of the season.
The video is a combination of short clips from Season 2 and interviews with cast members, including Moura and Pedro Pascal, and director Andres Baiz, who oversaw the final two episodes of the season.
Baiz reveals that they tried to make the final death scene as realistic as possible.
“We did the final scene in Medellin; we approached it as realistically as possible,” Baiz says. “Wagner did his own stunts. We wanted to be very energetic, to have a gritty realism, and we wanted just to create a sense of urgency. We didn’t want to make a big Hollywood action sequence, we wanted to make it intense and disturbing.”
